“BEYOND BORDERS”: FEATURE DOC ON IMMIGRATION SUBMITTED TO SUNDANCE

Los Angeles, CA (October 1, 2007)—Camborne Productions announced today that the new feature documentary Beyond Borders has been submitted to the Sundance Film Festival. Subtitled “The Debate Over Human Migration,” the film takes a wide-ranging look at the subject of immigration, both from historical and modern perspectives. Prominently featured is the current fight over Mexican immigration in the United States.
poster-01.jpg “This is such a hot-button issue, and we really want to get people to think critically about immigration, no matter what side of the debate they’re on,” producer Dave Szamet said. Szamet and director Brian Ging interviewed pro- and anti-immigration activists for the doc, including Noam Chomsky, Minuteman Project founder Jim Gilchrist, humorist Gustavo Arellano, and noted UCLA Chicano Studies professor Abel Valenzuela. Ging hopes the film will open up a much-needed “civilized debate” around Mexican immigration, in particular.

Executive Producer Simon Burrow, founder of the non-profit organization Radical Immigration and himself an immigrant, believes that the film is part of a movement that is “starting from the grass roots with a new way of thinking about migration.” In making the decision to submit to the prestigious Sundance festival, the filmmakers also took note of the crop of feature films about immigration that found success at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival. “The time is right. This issue is on everyone’s minds, as demonstrated by the massive turnout at immigrants-rights protests around the country earlier this year,” Burrow noted.

More information on the feature-length documentary can be found on the web at www.beyondborders.com .
