Los Angeles, CA, September 2007…Simon Burrow, the founder of Radical Immigration, has been honored by the Mexican Consulate for his work on behalf of the Mexican community in the area of immigration reform. Ruben Beltran, the Consul General, presented Burrow with a plaque in front of 150 members of the Consulate staff on September 2.

RADICAL IMMIGRATION FOUNDER RECEIVES AWARD FROM MEXICAN CONSULATE

“I am deeply moved and honored to accept this award as a friend of the Mexican people,” Burrow said, before presenting Beltran with a framed eighteenth century map of the U.S.-Mexican border as a token of appreciation. The map is part of Burrow’s large collection of original maps of the border area, the oldest of which dates to 1702. The Consulate will present an exhibition of Burrow’s map collection in 2008.

Beltran decided to present Burrow with the award after receiving a request from Burrow’s brother-in-law, Joel Geldin, for an official Mexican flag as a gift for Burrow’s 60th birthday. In researching the request, the Consulate staff became aware of Burrow’s work with Radical Immigration, an organization which seeks to create a world where responsible people have the right to live wherever they choose. Burrow is currently serving as executive producer of Beyond Borders, an independent documentary film about the impact of immigration in the U.S.

Burrow emigrated with his family from England at a young age. He founded Coventry, an industrial manufacturing with factories in Mexico and China, which allowed him to see firsthand the economic deprivation that leads Mexican families to seek entry to the United States.
