Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles

Beginning, January 19, 2009, please write a letter to President Barak Obama congratulating him on his victory and urging him to use his executive power to stop the ICE raids on undocumented immigrants. He should receive thousands of letters from us beginning January 21, his first day in office.

I also would like to request that in recognition of the countless immigrant contributions to this country, please use your executive powers to order a cease to the ICE raids that are separating families and causing further instability in our economy.

On International Human Rights Day, CHIRLA in collaboration with the Office of Peace & Justice Committee of the LA Archdiocese, announced a Know Your Rights / Raids Awareness Forum for Monday, December 15, 2008. The forum information is as follows:

In collaboration with the Office of Justice & Peace of the Los Angeles Archdiocese and Catholic Charities, CHIRLA is coordinating the distribution of business-size multi-lingual cards during "Know Your Rights Week" beginning on December 10 (World Human Rights Day) thru December 16, 2008. The goal is to distribute 1 million of these KYR cards.

Some activities during the week include:

Dec. 10: Press Conference in Los Angeles, Plaza Olvera, 10 am

Dec. 10: Distribution of KYR cards in various languages, 10 am

Dec. 10 - 15: Presentation of cards to parishioners at variety of places of worship throughout the Los Angeles County region.

Dec. 15: Know Your Rights Forum, Holman United Methodist Church, 6 pm
