Senate Votes for Cloture on S 1639

The Senate moved one step in the direction of Comprehensive Immigration Reform by voting for closure on S 1639 yesterday. There is still a long way to go. Along with substantial efforts to change the nature of the bill there are still real parlimentary hurdles to overcome. Nine Democrats and twenty six Republicans voted against cloture. Senate Vote

The Heritage Foundation reported that the cost of amnesty would be several trillion dollars and the right said “I told you so.” Do this simple test to see how wrong that report is.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform

The complexity of the current set of immigration laws makes the income tax code look simple. It is racist. It treats different people differently based on their ethnicity. It is far too complicated. There are more than eighty different visa categories. And it does not serve the best interests of our country by keeping out bad people and attracting good ones.
