As the immigration debate heats up again the ugly slogan "Which part of ILLEGAL don't you understand?" is being asked again. My friend Gene B suggested the counter phrase: "Which part of FREEDOM don't you understand?"
I had this exchange with an angry person. I believe I lost my temper.

Most American are against ILLEGAL Immigration....not legal immigration.
I just love to watch you guys twist this to fit
your "politically correct" view point.
Another FYI...you just won't accept is that the good law abiding Latinos
who immigrated here LEGALLY are NOT in agreement with you.
Another point is that those who are "dying in the desert" are coming
across the border ILLEGALLY
PLEASE tell me what part of ILLEGAL do you NOT understand!!! DUH!
Marsha
I have found that the reason that people move here ILLEGALLY is that there is not a way for them to move here LEGALLY. The reason that there is not a way to move here legally is that our immigration laws are much too restrictive. The problem is our laws, not the people acting as if they had freedom.
The part of ILLEGAL that I don't understand is the part that make it against the law for a person from Tijuana to buy a house and move to Las Vegas. That also makes it against the law for an employer in Los Angeles to hire the most qualified person for an available job unless the person has “papers.” How can these acts be ILLEGAL?
Some laws are so wrong that history will judge the laws not the acts to be illegal. Like laws that wouldn't allow women to vote until 1921 or laws that locked up Japanese-Americans in 1942 or a law in 1963 that said that Blacks couldn't drink out of certain drinking fountains. History will judge laws that restrict immigration in the same harsh way.
If as a Nation we were true to our principles, we would allow people from Mexico who want to move here to move here, just like we allow Puerto Rican's to move here. Then it wouldn't be "ILLEGAL." The existence of a law that says it is wrong for a responsible person from Nogales, Sonora to move to Nogales, Arizona is the ILLEGAL act. Change the law.
We should be welcoming all Mexican's who want to come here to live and work and become Americans. Think about what they are saying with their feet: "I want to join you. Your system is better than Mexico's. I will risk death to be part of your system" And what are we saying in return? I'll leave that for you to answer.
