How much immigration should be allowed into the United States?

CIR Spring II

The NYT and the LAT both reported this week that the Obama administration will propose Immigration Reform legislation in May.  The proposed legislation will, according to the LAT story; “control immigration and make it an orderly system.”  Additionally it will provide a path to citizenship for the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the country.  A story in the LAT last week speculated that the proposed legislation might sacrifice future legal immigration as a compromise to gain legal status for the people already here.
Radical Immigration would like to remind the Obama administration that we got into the “illegal” immigrant situation we are in now because the Reagan amnesty in 1986 made the same compromise.  Restricting immigration is incompatible with the freedoms that Americans claim and that the world aspires to.  To restrict immigration we have to build more walls, hire more paramilitaries, increase inspections, threaten more raids and tear families apart.  There is another choice:  Allow responsible people the right to move to the USA  if they fulfill some obligations to show there desire to be here and that they will not be a burden.  Click here to learn more about this other choice.

After some technical difficulties, we are back online. Many thank to our new web and MAC consultant NAH Enterprises.   Now we can get back to the business of convincing the world that migration is a net benefit to everyone.

Happy New Year 2009

Saturday, 03 January 2009

In January of 2008 it looked like there was a chance to improve the condition of immigrants on many levels.  It didn't happen.  The US election, an oil price boom and bust, the subprime mortgage crisis and finally the deep recession all took priority.  Very little progress was made to improve the lot of immigrants in the US and the radical idea that responsible people should be allowed to live where they choose was not even considered.

But there is reason to be optimistic.  The election of Barack Obama is a symbol to the world that political stability, economic security and individual freedom are not the exclusive property of Northern Europeans.  This profound revelation could have extremely positive ramifications.  As freedom rise fear shrinks and it becomes in the margin easier to accept strangers.

So I am optimistic about 2009.  Immigration will happen and people will be a little more accepting of others.  At Radical Immigration we will continue to provide solid data, good arguments and workable strategies to the thinkers and activists working to make the world safe for migration.

Happy Thanksgiving

My Thanksgiving wish:

  • The raids and deportations will stop.
  • The fence will rust away.
  • We will welcome responsible people to join us to share the abundance that free people create.
We have to share our abundance and the values that create it.  If we do the blessings of the system created by our founders will continue to grow.  And  we, our children and the newcomers we welcome will prosper.  If we become miserly with our blessings the benefits that accrue to each of us will shrink.   It is the New Testament story of the loaves and the fishes written anew.
